It was translated and given that name by a first century scholar named Andronicus of Rhodes and, according to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, was assembled by Andronicus from various smaller sections of Aristotle’s work. The title ‘metaphysics’literally meaning, ‘after the Physics’ very likely indicated ‘the location’ of the metaphysical topics discussed within the treatise, written by Aristotle, which were placed after the topics of Physics.
